How to Hit a Hybrid: Two Simple Tips For Better Shots
Meredith Kirk, LPGA Instructor
Today I’m going to give you two really easy tips when it comes to using a hybrid because hybrids are played differently than irons and if you’re playing them both exactly the same you might be struggling with one or the other.
So let’s talk about the hybrids when it comes to setting up with a hybrid: The first thing is you want to make sure that the ball is played forward particularly if you have a four iron or a five iron you’re going to play the ball slightly forward so depending on the hybrid I have my four hybrid right now so the ball is going to be played a little bit forward from Center.
Also I want to make sure that I have a little bit of a spine tilt for this shot so I’m going to tilt my spine a little bit to my trail side and the reason why is I want to make sure that I shallow out this shot a little bit when it comes to my swing path I do not want a descending blow to the ball like I’m striking it with an iron, that’s the difference between the irons and the hybrids.
With the hybrids you want more of a sweeping motion with the shot so that means shallowing out a little bit we’re going to have more of a ascending Blow To The Ball versus a descending blow to the ball so just think about sweeping this shot. When you add a little bit of that spine tilt to your Trail side that’s going to help shallow you out a little bit I’m going to turn to this side and hit a shot for you and as I’m setting up here because I have my four hybrid.
I’m playing the ball a little bit forward tilting tilting my spine a little bit to my trail side and I’m going to give a nice easy sweeping motion to this shot that felt really good.
Okay so those are some super easy tips to help build your confidence with hybrids because again our hybrids are different than our iron so just focus on sweeping the shot with the hybrid and you’re really going to enjoy the feel you’re going to enjoy the outcome and I hope that this golf tip helps you!
