<p>The reasons for not cranking through a full 18 holes in a day are as unique as they are important.</p>

<p>Maybe you’re just getting back into the swing of the game. Or the day care isn’t keen on additional last-minute changes. Maybe you already played 18 elsewhere and just want to keep the good times going.</p>

<p>Regardless, South Carolina’s Grand Strand is home to plenty of great nine-hole choices to answer the bell. And just like our 18-hole options are all over the skill level, so, too, are the halfway points.</p>

<p>We’re going to keep these tight, mostly located in the central part of the Myrtle Beach area. After all, a hefty drive for nine holes doesn’t necessarily make sense. And because we want to check the right box, we’ve split them up among three different skill levels.</p>

<p><strong>EASY</strong><br>Wild Wing&#8217;s  Hummingbird 9 wasn’t so much an afterthought as it was a way to make use of the existing terrain from the old 72-hole property. A mix of some of the original Hummingbird 18 and the Wood Stork 18 led to the creation of this Par 34 mini-track that feels much more traditional than your typical short course.</p>

<p>If that isn’t centralized enough for your liking, give the <a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/myrtlewood-golf-club-pinehills">PineHills Course at Myrtlewood</a> <em>(top photo)</em> a try. The front and back nine here have some serious redeeming qualities. And while the vast majority of visitors elect to go for a full 18, there’s no reason sneaking into the mix for nine is too much of a problem. After all, this is one of the most efficient staffs around. Did we mention the <a href="https://www.mbn.com/gallery/from-high-above-the-front-nine-on-the-pinehills-course-at-myrtlewood-golf-club">new bunkers</a>?</p>

<p><strong>MEDIUM</strong><br><a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/world-tour-golf-links">World Tour Golf Links</a>, like the PineHills Course, favors 18-hole play over any counterparts. However, the secret here is how many players decide they want to tackle either the Open or Championship nines one more time and stick around to make it a 27. As such, getting on and off to sneak a peak at the likes of this course’s renditions of St. Andrews, Augusta National or any of the other big-name replicas is always a possibility.</p>

<p>Just down the proverbial road from World Tour rests one of the area’s lone remaining true 27-hole properties. <a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/arrowhead-country-club">Arrowhead Country Club</a> has made a huge name for itself by mixing and matching its Cypress, Lakes and Waterway nines. Cypress has some creative uses of inland water; Lakes presses visitors to be as precise as possible &#8211; both of the tee and into the green; and Waterway is a uniquely wide nine, given the alternatives.</p>

<p><strong>DIFFICULT</strong><br>While we don’t recommend tapping out at the midway point, stories of a few players doing just that at <a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/prestwick-country-club">Prestwick Country Club</a> prove that sometimes navigating the front or back here is taxing enough. We added it to this list because the knowledge of halving the course could steel those nerves just enough to aid in your approach. Tackling No. 9 or No. 18 alone is a chore. Having to only best one of them? Your chances improve dramatically.</p>

<p>Our second choice may not even be among your normal list of more difficult tracks, but one of the tricks of the <a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/grande-dunes">Grand Dunes Resort Course</a> is how much rhythm plays into many visitors’ success. This wide open design takes a few holes to let you settle in; eliminate that from the equation and the ask is to achieve quality shots with some pop right from the get-go. Regardless of tee selection, Grande Dunes isn’t for the faint of heart or timid off the tee.</p>
