<p>The most important part of any golf course is its greens. Big or small? Severe undulation or subtle breaks? Fast or slow?&nbsp;</p>

<p>After (hopefully) covering the first 370 yards in two shots, it still takes two strokes with the flat stick to finish the final feet of every hole. Putting is the most maddening part of the game, but there are few things golfers enjoy more than the challenge of a diabolical set of greens.&nbsp;</p>

<p>If you are that person, the one who loves the challenge of hitting the proper tier or finding a way to two-putt from the other side of an elephant buried in the middle of the green, here are the five courses with Myrtle Beach’s most challenging putting complexes.&nbsp;</p>

<p>– When you’ve hosted a U.S. Women’s Open and annually challenge some of the game’s best collegiate golfers, you better have demanding greens and the <u><a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/the-dunes-golf-and-beach-club">Dunes Golf &amp; Beach Club</a></u> delivers. The pushed up putting surfaces are undulating and lightning fast. The course’s most famous hole, No. 13, otherwise known as “Waterloo,” attracts a lot of attention because it plays around Lake Singleton, but it’s also home to the course’s most challenging green. From the upper left tier to the bottom right, a two-putt, as is the case throughout the round, is a victory.&nbsp;</p>

<p>– A 2022 renovation project expanded <u><a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/grande-dunes">Grande Dunes Resort Club&#8217;s</a></u> <em>(pictured right)</em> already large greens by 33 percent. The additional size provides many more options in terms of pin locations, ensuring the putting surfaces at Grande Dunes are near the top of any list of Myrtle Beach’s best. If you haven’t already done so, you need to play Grande Dunes post-renovation. </p>

<p>–The mere mention of the Dye name causes golfers to break out in cold sweats, and P.B.’s greens complexes at <u><a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/prestwick-country-club">Prestwick Country Club</a></u> <em>(top photo) </em>certainly live up to the expectations that accompany the family name. Undulating greens and consistent, year-round speeds demand precise approach shots. Three putts are inevitable.&nbsp;</p>

<p>– Heathland at Legends Resort was one of famed architect Tom Doak’s first solo designs and the mammoth greens complexes left little doubt that he was on his way to stardom. If the super wakes up in a bad mood, there are a couple locations on every green that can make the hole play much more difficult. Fans of the Open Championship will want to pay particular attention to the seventh green, which pays homage to the Road Hole at St. Andrews.&nbsp;</p>

<p>– Jack Nicklaus is golf’s most prolific champion and your putter will have to be Sunday sharp if you hope to score well at <u><a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/long-bay-golf-club">Long Bay</a></u>, where the greens are small and have a lot of sharp slopes, making every putt a challenge. Danger always lurks and birdies are hard-earned on this North Strand gem.</p>
