<p><em>As the year nears its conclusion, we are reflecting on the biggest Myrtle Beach golf stories of the past 12 months. This was an exceptionally busy year along the Grand Strand and here is a look back at the area’s second biggest story.</em></p>

<p>The 16-man, 18-hole shootout featured eight of golf’s most popular YouTubers and eight aspiring pros competing for a sponsor exemption into the PGA Tour’s inaugural <a href="https://myrtlebeachclassic.com/">Myrtle Beach Classic</a>, and it brought millions of eyeballs to Myrtle Beach.</p>

<p><a href="https://www.mbn.com/course/tournament-player-club">TPC Myrtle Beach</a> hosted ‘The Q at Myrtle Beach’ an event that produced great drama and an international audience as fans relished the opportunity to watch their favorite YouTubers compete for a spot in a PGA Tour event.</p>

<p>After 18 holes of stroke-play competition, Matt Atkins, who had previously made 25 career PGA Tour starts, and George Bryan, a three-time All-American at the University of South Carolina and one half of the famed Bryan Bros, were tied at 3-under.</p>

<p>After signing their scorecards, the longtime friends returned to the 18th tee at TPC for the playoff. A wayward Bryan drive required him to play conservatively, but he reached the green in three with a makeable birdie putt, only to see his 20-foot effort just miss.</p>

<p>Atkins’ first two shots were perfectly struck, and he stuffed his approach to a couple feet. With victory and a spot in the inaugural Myrtle Beach Classic hanging in the balance, Atkins coolly drained the birdie putt.</p>

<p>Atkins went on to make the cut in the Myrtle Beach Classic and finish tied for 45th.</p>

That total didn’t include the millions of views generated by videos the YouTubers produced, further highlighting the spotlight the event shined on the Myrtle Beach area and TPC.</p>
