<p>This course preaches strategy over and over and over again. And if we’re going to highlight three holes here above the others, we want to pick three that prove not our point, but Jackson’s.</p>

<p><strong>NO. 7, PAR 4, 328 YARDS</strong><br>Arguably the quintessential Jackson hole at <a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/river-club">River Club</a>, No. 7 is a wonderfully designed beauty with a lengthy pond up the left and a sliver up the right. Tack on a few trees framing the fairway, a couple of thick bunkers way up the right side and a green hugged but all the color contrast of the water and trees, and, like we said, it’s a beauty.</p>

<p>None of that is why we really, truly, love this hole.</p>

<p>This is the River Club yardage that reminds you that Jackson wasn’t about brawn. He wanted you to think your way through holes in a way so few architects could. As thousands of players over the years have discovered &#8211; and many the hard way &#8211; leaving the full-throttle club and swing behind is how you achieve success. <p><strong>NO. 14, PAR 3, 149 YARDS</strong><br>The island looks huge. It is. The green looks small. It also is.</p>

<p>Here’s the thing.</p>

<p>Unlike the other three Par 3s at <a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/river-club">River Club</a>, No. 14 is a pure fly hole no matter what tee boxes you’re using. Up and over, no other way about it. The water is everywhere except that island, and it’s a glorious look at such a short piece of real estate.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The two bridges feel like they connect the island (psst… it’s not a full-360, even if it appears that way from the tee), and the view from the box is worth a few pics. Take them, because if you don’t hit the putting surface but don’t have to drop, you might be wondering exactly what type of magic you just summoned.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>NO. 18, PAR 5, 493 YARDS</strong><br>There’s a very clear reason we talk about this finisher so much. We love it.</p>

<p>Wrapping up Jackson’s gem at <a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/river-club">River Club</a> is a hole that doesn’t match its No. 18 handicap (for men). Bending counterclockwise around a large pond, the 493-yard hole has two chances to shave distance. The first comes in the form of a small peninsula jutting into the water. Players who reach that space can then attack the green in two; after all, if you can reach the peninsula, it’s not too much of an ask to then duplicate the performance.</p>
