<p>Even when a course’s signature hole is a lengthy bear or a short Par 3, the general consensus is that the Par 4s are what truly give it an identity.</p>

<p>It’s simple math, really, as there will be more of them</p>

<p>And <u><a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/wild-wing-plantation-avocet">Wild Wing Plantation’s Avocet Course</a></u> has plenty of character when it comes to just that. Up and over this straight-line 18-hole track, Larry Nelson and Jeff Brauer crafted Par 4s that made us think, pushed us to our limits and then pitched back in with chances at glory.</p>

<p>The current rules of golf keep the distances on the type of holes fairly straightforward. The max length for a Par 4 is 470 yards. Naturally, you can see how the sixth hole at Wild Wing is flirting with it.</p>

<p>The caveat, of course, is that most players are going to be using one of the three forward tee boxes. However, a lot of low-handicap golfers elect to use the <u><a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/wild-wing-plantation-avocet">Avocet track</a></u> as their test case for backing it up to the top test.</p>

<p>Either way, this is the hardest hole on the course, and you may find out why. After a relatively easy to reach fairway, the remaining third is a chopped up bit of grass that goes back and forth from the neatly cut variety to something much, much different.</p>

<p><strong>NO. 9: 362 YARDS</strong></p>

<p>The great thing about Wild Wing is how it keeps mixing up the routine just enough to keep you on your toes. And it certainly does that with it signature hole.</p>
</div>

<p>Wrapping up the front nine (although you’re going to blend right into No. 10 in moments) requires navigating this nifty bit of creativity first. The offset tee boxes are going to give players the option of a secondary fairway up the right side. Hit either that one or the standard designed fairway, and you’re going to have a reasonable shot into the green in regulation.</p>

<p>The back-up plan should be considered just that, though. Six small bunkers come into play and immediately put bogeys and doubles in the table if you find yourself in them this far out.</p>

<p><strong>NO. 14: 308 YARDS</strong></p>

<p>You remember that whole max distance thing we just talked about with No. 6? Well, <u><a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/wild-wing-plantation-avocet">Wild Wing</a></u> has a cool sense of give and take.</p>

<p>On No. 14, anyone playing from the whites is going to be needing to cover just 265 yards from tee to green. It’s a tempting bit of realization that with a perfect strike, a whole bunch of golfers can actually reach the putting surface or at least put it ridiculously close &#8211; and, yes, there have been a few holes-in-one here.</p>

<p>The course’s power brokers had to know many would try. Off to the right is a huge patch of catch-all fairway space that on any other hole would be a no-man’s land. It keeps par in play even for those who are off-center.</p>
