<p>There are hundreds of books written to help people get where they want to be with anything &#8211; from running a 5K to saving for retirement.&nbsp;</p>

<p>And while we certainly haven’t read them all, the self-help advice literature all seems to have a common theme.</p>

<p>Incremental improvement.</p>

<p>Bite off more than you can chew too early, and potential gains are stopped dead in their tracks. Don’t try to climb the latter, and growth is minimized. Easy enough, right? The end isn’t always the same, but the similarities with the means are.</p>

<p>We took that same approach to help players make their own necessary steps to crafting a better game. If you’re looking to build up a rhythm while staying west of the beach on South Carolina’s Grand Strand, this three-course combination might just serve up exactly the type of progress you need.</p>

<p><strong>GETTING WARMED UP</strong><br>Among the more player friendly courses in all of the Grand Strand, the <u><a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/quail-creek">Hackler Course at Coastal Carolina University</a></u> also boasts a large practice facility that includes one of the area’s few true short-game zones.</p>

<p>Once on the course, you’ll find a potentially quick round where the true danger zones are few and far between (keep an eye on No. 18, among them). Before the doozy of a finisher, though, getting through Hackler can be as simple as paying attention to your surroundings.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The course itself offers a rather direct approach to the game, and outside of a handful of holes can you not see the green from the tee. That leads many players to walk the course as a change of pace.<em>(Hackler Course at CCU top photo)&nbsp;</em></p>

<p><strong>BEGINNING TO PUSH YOURSELF</strong><br>The angling at <u><a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/burning-ridge-golf-club">Burning Ridge Golf Club</a></u> makes this a perfect intermediate track for those looking to take the next step. And while there are only three real doglegs on the re-appropriated property (there used to be two courses here), the non-linear feel on many of the holes dictates how well someone can do here.</p>

<p>Greens are offset on Nos. 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 15 and 16. Add in those three doglegs (Nos. 6, 13 and 14). And then implement forced carries into the greens on Nos. 1 and 17 and Burning Ridge can’t be considered easy by any stretch of the imagination.</p>

<p>Making the most of getting beyond those effective curveballs is what will have you proving to yourself you’re ready to take on the most difficult challenge of the process. <em>(Burning Ridge pictured right)</em></p>

<p><strong>THE FINAL EXAM</strong><br>You’re standing on the first tee box, staring at a narrow fairway of a 459-yard Par 5, and reality sets in that you better have brought a couple extra No. 2 pencils for this Scantron. <u><a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/myrtle-beach-national-kings-north">King’s North at Myrtle Beach National </a></u>is 6,000 yards of enjoyment, even if the scorecard itself is worthy of a re-take exam after the fact.</p>
</div>

<p>From that opening knee knocker to the panic-inducing Par 4 at No. 3 to “The Gambler” (No. 6) to the brutal Par 5 No. 10 to the sand trap-heavy 18th, Arnold Palmer’s top Myrtle Beach layout was designed to be exactly this type of test.&nbsp;</p>
</div>

<p>Remember, this course draws visitors from around the globe for a reason. That doesn’t mean all of them play well here.</p>
