<p>Then pick our favorite holes. Typically, those are where we find our greatest successes.</p>

<p>That sweet, forced carry where we mentally planted a flag for all of eternity. The dogleg we faded perfectly. The, gasp, time we finished with an eagle.</p>

<p>Myrtle Beach’s golf-rich environment lends itself to the storybook holes that we’ll tell our grandkids about time and again.</p>

<p>But these aren’t those holes.</p>

<p>From Pawleys Island to Murrells Inlet right on up to the north end of Myrtle Beach, three shots have formed a long line of those muttering “Good job, good effort” to themselves after getting their tail handed to them. Because for every player who can say they’ve conquered these beasts, there are hundreds more who lay in their wake.</p>

<p>You probably remember these holes with not-so-fond memories, at least, not of your own shots. Read on, knowing flashbacks of beatdowns are entirely possible.</p>

<p><u><a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/tournament-player-club"><strong>TPC MYRTLE BEACH</strong></a></u><br>Hole: No. 9<br>Shot: Second<br>About the hole: Par 4, 445 yards<br>What makes this shot so hard: Even if you luck out and put your tee shot exactly where you need it to be (fat chance), the uphill back half of the hole adds distance you didn’t even know existed. Now, let’s assume you didn’t put your tee shot just right. All you’re dealing with is an hourglassed fairway, water on one side, trees on the left, a green that rolls toward a significant bunker and &#8211; as we mentioned before &#8211; all of it from an elevated spot that would make the castles of the Middle Ages envious. After all, this is one of the hardest holes on an already difficult course for a reason. <em>(top photo)</em></p>

<p><u><a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/the-dunes-golf-and-beach-club" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>DUNES GOLF AND BEACH CLUB</strong></a></u><br>Hole: No. 13<br>Shot: Second<br>About the hole: Par 5, 520 yards<br>What makes this shot so hard: There may not be a more extreme dogleg in all of Myrtle Beach golf. And that’s not even taking into account what the two longer tee boxes are facing. Even from the whites, the second shot asks Joe Q. Player, whether he’s got that shot in his repertoire or not, to cut around Lake Singleton and leave the third shot somewhat angled enough to attack the green with the third. For most, that’s a big ol’ nope-burger. More than likely, the tee shot is going to end up in the middle third of the fairway, not the necessary right side, forcing you to stay on that line. Try to cheat from there, and you’re in even more trouble.</p>

<p><u><a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/river-club"><strong>RIVER CLUB</strong></a></u><br>Hole: No. 18<br>Shot: Second<br>About the hole: Par 5, 493 yards<br>What makes this shot so hard: There are two ways to look at your last second shot of the day at River Club. First, you missed the peninsula that allows you a viable chance at reaching the green in two and have to find a way to follow the fairway all the way up &#8211; itself which is no easy task. Or, secondly, you put your ball on that peninsula and now your eyes are big. You will absolutely have a shot at putting your ball on the green in two and have a possible eagle putt in your future. Or, you could leave it short, plunking it into the vast amounts of water or crush it beyond that relatively small green into one of the three unfriendly traps. <em>(pictured right)</em></p>
