<p>Standing on a table, having just done my old-guy version of the dance to Sugar Hill Gang’s “Apache”, I looked at my 17-year-old’s face and saw fear.</p>

<p>Pure. Unbridled. Embarrassment.</p>

<p><u><a href="https://www.thehangout.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Hangout</a></u> will forever be in my debt.</p>

<p>One of the newest additions to the popular Broadway at the Beach, the 40,000-square-foot venue that opened in June of 2022 is one-part food, one-part fun. Any given hour, people are dancing atop their seats and tables, music and TikTok memes are echoing from the high ceilings and an emcee in the middle of the room is encouraging anything but a nice, quiet conversation.</p>

<p>The atmosphere also includes outdoor bands, regular foam parties, a two-story indoor slide, a wall of big-screen TVs for the games and a gift shop selection fitting for a restaurant of this caliber.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Hangout is new (read: Clean). It’s electric (read: Never boring). It’s convenient (read: Easy parking despite its location at Broadway).&nbsp;</p>

<p>But what about the food?</p>

<p>That’s the part that got us.</p>

<p>Myrtle Beach has seen plenty of restaurants come through with a similar approach. The servers dance and sing, there are a lot of flashing lights and and someone is trying to distract you from the food that took too long to bring to the table or was bathed in salt.</p>

<p>That’s not The Hangout’s M.O.</p>

<p>Even though most of the tables here are built to accommodate large parties (and just shy of 200 pounds), the wait staff was on our group of nine moments after we sat down &#8211; barely long enough for us to scan the drink menu. Then, even though our server was bogged down with another table, a different server brought those out inside of 7 minutes of our butts hitting the seats.</p>

<p>The drink list here includes 21 signature cocktails, frozen drinks, mojitos and margaritas. It’s just expansive enough without being too overbearing for the staff, as we found out as other tables were receiving theirs just as fast as we got ours.</p>

<p>From there, it was on to the appetizers. Did I mention our group had five kids that day? Fried calamari, chicken nachos, wings, fried pickles, chips and queso, hummus and peel and eat shrimp are all there. Again, nothing too over the top, but effective to run the gamut of appetites and tastes without bogging down the system behind the scenes.</p>

<p>The rest of the menu is just as straightforward.</p>

<p>The Hangout’s Favorites includes a variety of seafood. Sandwiches &#8211; three excellent-looking Po’ Boys &#8211; and burgers big and small then draw your eye away from the three salads that we’re pretty sure are there only by state law.</p>

<p>Much like the drinks, we could tell by the expedited delivery and preparation that went into all of it that our grub wasn’t sitting under a warmer in the kitchen.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Much to the chagrin of the women sitting at the table next to us, the entire dinner was done and paid for before I got a chance for a second dance performance. The first one &#8211; and the video to prove it will have to be enough.</p>

<p>After all, my 17-year-old’s face was already more red than the table’s ketchup bottle.</p>
