If you’ve been around the game of golf long enough, you’ve either told or heard your share of golf jokes and legendary golf stories. Many are innocent and predictable, others are extraordinary or just plain bizarre. Some are even a little too risqué to share in a family-friendly forum.
Then there’s this tale from a one-of-a-kind entertainment personality. At an appearance at a charity golf tournament in Myrtle Beach in 2011, longtime comedian and frequent “Late Show with David Letterman” guest Gary Mule Deer offered up a difficult scenario for the competitive golfer. The reaction on all fronts was, shall we say, unpredictable:

So, you’re playing for the club championship. After 17 holes, you and your opponent are dead even. You have the honors off the 18th tee, and you hit your drive right down the middle of the fairway about 250 yards; your opponent’s drive goes straight right, into the woods.
You help him look for his ball for about 10 minutes, and finally he says to you, “Why don’t you go back and hit your second shot. I’ll look for my ball for a couple more minutes. If I don’t find it, I’ll go back and tee up again.”
You go out to the fairway and hit your second shot. It’s perfect, and lands about 10 feet from the pin.
Just as your ball hits the green, from out of the woods you hear, “Found it!” A ball comes flying out of the woods, and drops a few inches from the pin for a gimme.
Here’s the dilemma:
Do you take the cheating bastard’s ball out of your pocket, and confront him with it, or do you just keep your mouth shut?
