Want to know why Golf Channel’s “Big Break” has spawned 22 seasons?
While the players aren’t the top of the PGA or LPGA food chain, their quest to get to that point pumps enough adrenaline into the competition to display the highs and lows in a very short period of time. Take the final 20 minutes of the third episode of “Big Break Myrtle Beach,” which aired Tuesday evening.
Toph Peterson was left for dead on multiple occasions. He, well, flopped on the flop-wall challenge, not only missing his chance there (twice, actually) but also finishing last among a semi-betting system with the 11 remaining players. 
His appearance on the show didn’t get better with the second challenge. Required to shoot at the Barefoot Resort Fazio Course No. 4 from a distance of greater than 90 yards with only an 8-iron, Toph was the lone player to miss the green on two shots.
That meant he was left to choose between three other players in similar positioning. He picked Katie Detlefsen, a highly decorated teaching professional originally from Minnesota. 
The two were even after what essentially broke down to a putting-turned-par 4 challenge. It was then, yet again, Peterson appeared destined to be heading home. After he lost a tee shot off the right size of Fazio No. 14, Peterson missed his par; Detlefsen, however, pushed a short putt to the right, forcing a one-hole stroke playoff.
Peterson learned from his mistake, using a 3-wood this time around and finding the fairway before eventually parring the hole. After also finding the middle of the prime landing area, Detlefsen put her second shot into the bunker and her third onto the green.
Like with her earlier chance to eliminate Peterson, her par putt went wide again.
It proved that it doesn’t take top-flight golfers to make for great drama.
TUESDAY’S BIG WINNER: Carolin Pinegger possibly established herself as one of the favorites with another solid showing. On Tuesday, she was one of the first four to safely navigate the flop wall/betting challenge to move on to Episode 4. That accompanied a solid performance in the premier, when she was the lone player to succeed in the Glass Challenge with one shot and was one of the final four alive for the Super Immunity that eventually went to Charlie, and the second show where she was one of the first four to avoid elimination.
TUESDAY’S BIG WINNER (First runner up): If professional golf doesn’t work out, 19-year-old Anthony Quezada may find a spot in the WWE playing the role of a heel manager. The Phoenix native continued to poke sticks at others and go against the grain. The mouthy youngster didn’t have his best day during his challenges, but he’ll be around (and presumably still talking) next week.
DOWN TO 10: Each of the first two players eliminated from “Big Break Myrtle Beach” have been women. Detlefsen joined Krista Puisite, who was sent packing in the second episode. Detlefsen was a college teammate of one of the remaining contestants, Carolin Pinegger.
