<p><strong>What is your favorite hole at River Club and why?</strong></p>

<p>It would be too difficult to pick just one hole at The River Club, so I am going to talk about a couple. The par 3 &#8211; 14th hole has an island green which has a few bunkers just short of the green surface and is surrounded with a wooden bulkhead that gives you a 17th at Sawgrass feel. Also, the par 5 – 18th which is an excellent risk-reward dogleg left. You can play it safe down the right side off the tee or attempt to cross the water to the left to get you within iron range for your second and give you a look at eagle. It is a hole that can really allow you to end your round on a high note.</p>

<p><strong>What is one thing about&nbsp;River Club that will surprise people?</strong></p>

<p>The most popular item on our grill menu, especially for the locals, is our meat loaf sandwich. It has been a staple now for many years and it is something that people remember when they come back to play here. The recipe is the same today as it was when it was first introduced.</p>

<p><strong>Best advice for a good round at River Club?</strong></p>

<p>It sounds cliché but you need to play conservative and take what the course gives you. With over 100 bunkers and water in play on 14 of the 18 holes, it is easy to get yourself into trouble if you play too aggressive. Try to select clubs and play to yardages that take the big number out of play.</p>

<p><strong>Other than yours, what is your favorite Myrtle Beach-area course and why?</strong></p>

<p><u><a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/tournament-player-club">TPC Myrtle Beach</a></u> is a special place for me having had the opportunity to work there for nearly 7 years. It is a true tournament tested layout which allows you to use every club in your bag. Each hole design is different from the next and it is always in superb condition. If you are looking for a tour player experience, TPC is as good as it gets in the area.</p>

<p><strong>What is the biggest misconception people have about the golf industry?</strong></p>

<p>I find that non golfers view golf as being too expensive to get into. Sure, golf can be expensive if you are buying the newest equipment and playing high-end golf courses, but there are many ways to play the game and keep the cost down. Nowadays you can find slightly older but decent equipment on the internet or pre-owned stores for next to nothing. Just like equipment there are many different types of facilities as well. There are always great deals to be had at your local municipal or lower-tier courses especially if you are flexible with when you play and walking the course instead of taking a cart can significantly lower your costs as well. Don’t let price be an excuse not to play the game</p>

<p><strong>What is your best round ever and where was it?</strong></p>

<p>I have shot 71 twice. The first time was at a course named Harrisville near where I grew up in the northeast. The second time was here in Myrtle Beach at The Witch that has since closed its doors. The tough part is that neither round was very clean. For example, at The Witch I had 5 birdies to go with 3 bogeys and a double. That is why golf is truly an endless pursuit of perfection. Even at your best there is always some shots left out there.</p>

<p><strong>Quick advice on how someone can improve their golf game</strong></p>

<p>Practice how you play. More than 50% of your strokes are in the short game yet we see so many people go to the range to hit driver and a few irons then leave. You need to spend half of your practice time on and around the putting green. It is the easiest way to lower your scores.</p>

<p>Having spent part of my teens and most of my twenties in the landscaping business I would probably still be continuing down that road. It is a rewarding job that gives you an immediate sense of accomplishment.</p>

<p>I think that The Old Course at St. Andrews and Augusta National are the obvious answers here for most golf fans and they will always be up there on my bucket list. Also, a couple of courses on the list which may be even harder to get on would be Cypress Point in California and Pine Valley in New Jersey.</p>
