<p>Golf professionals know the game, the players and the courses we all love to play, and that&#8217;s certainly the case with Rich Woolever, who runs the show at Founders Club. In an effort to tap into all that knowledge, we sat down for a Q&amp;A with Rich, learning not just about <u><a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/founders-club">Founders Club</a></u> but also his thoughts on the industry, his dream course, and the best restaurant in Myrtle Beach.</p>

<p><strong>What is your favorite hole at Founders Club and why?</strong></p>

<p>I would have to say that it&#8217;s a toss-up between the par 5 &#8211; 6th hole and the par 4 &#8211; 14th hole. Both simply because they are unique. Number 6 has a split fairway that can lead to birdie with an accurate 2nd and approach shot. Hitting in from the right-side elevated fairway gives a great angle into the green. Number 14 offers the most elevation change of any hole in the area.</p>

<p><strong>What is one thing about&nbsp;Founders Club that will surprise people?</strong></p>

<p>The incredible&nbsp;drainage. The course has a sandy base and it&#8217;s very rare for carts&nbsp;not to be riding the fairways. Even after a heavy rain the course remains playable and enjoyable.</p>

<p>The golf course rewards accuracy. Take your time to select clubs and keep the ball in the fairway. Even on some of the longer holes it&#8217;s better to keep the driver in your bag and use something that stays on the short grass.</p>

<p><strong>Other than Founders Club, what is your favorite Myrtle Beach-area course and why?</strong></p>

<p>Other than Founders Club, my favorite Myrtle Beach-area course is <u><a href="https://www.mbn.com/courses/willbrook-plantation">Willbrook Plantation</a></u>. The course has a long history dating back to when the property&nbsp;was a rice plantation and the live oaks that line the fairways along with the azaleas make it incredibly scenic and challenging.</p>

<p><strong>What is the biggest misconception people have about the golf industry?</strong></p>

<p>Some people believe&nbsp;that golf is a game for the wealthy or elite. In reality we welcome all players and all skill levels. Junior golf and growth of the game is important to all of us that work in the industry. We want everyone to enjoy spending time on the course with family/friends and have a good time.</p>

<p><strong>What is your best round ever and where was it?</strong></p>

<p>The best round I have ever played was at a course that no longer exists. It was at Wicked Stick in Myrtle Beach. I had four birdies and no bogies. It was not a round filled with spectacular shots, but rather a round with few mistakes and a couple lucky breaks.</p>

<p><strong>Quick advice on how someone can improve their golf game</strong></p>

<p>Hit one more club than you believe that you need. There are very few approach shots that are missed short. Almost everyone would shoot better scores if they took an extra club and had realistic expectations concerning how far they hit each club.</p>

<p>Augusta National always comes to mind as the top wish list course to play. There are so many great courses such as The Old Course, The Country Club at Brookline that rank very high, but Augusta will always be at the top of the list.</p>
