A 4.5-star course, Tiger’s Eye has been ranked among “America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses” by Golf Digest and it’s one of the best along the Grand Strand. Architect Tim Cate used the land’s uncommon elevation change and his creative wizardry to craft the third of ORP’s Big Cats.
The defining characteristics at Tiger’s Eye are wide fairways framed by yawning waste bunkers and water on 15 of 18 holes. Once players arrive at the putting surfaces, undulating bentgrass greens await.
Don’t be daunted. The course has six sets of tees, ranging from 4,640 to 7,010 yards, so it’s playable for all levels of player.
Among the layout’s most memorable holes is the fourth, a relatively short par 4 with sand and water everywhere. The dogleg left provides a risk-reward decision (how much do you try to cut the corner?) that can define the front nine. It’s a great hole.
The par 3 11th, which plays to a peninsula green ringed by coquina boulders, is the most photographed hole at Tiger’s Eye Golf. The 11th has the course’s second smallest green, but the beauty, more so than the challenge, is what players take home.
