Tom Jackson’s layout at River Hills Golf and Country Club blended the location with the game, maybe unlike any other course around Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and is a hidden gem.
Book Tee Times NowRequest A Quick QuoteSetting itself apart from the pack was no easy task for River Hills Golf & Country Club. Yet, the Little River course has done just that putting the terrain it was built upon to the test.
Undulation throughout, coupled with the fact that none of the holes run parallel to each other amid the heavily wooded area, turns River Hills from a manageable track to one that can confound the unprepared.
“It’s a visually deceptive golf course,” head professional Brian Lewis said. “Because of the way the designer made it, it can [confuse] you. There are elevation changes. They are mild, but for Myrtle Beach, it’s quite unique.”
Tom Jackson’s layout blended the location with the game, maybe unlike any other course around Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Holes dip and dive around water on 13 of the 18 holes and tree-lined fairways throughout. That is evident no more than on No. 17, the course’s signature hole.
The double-doglegged par-5 stretches to as much as 491 yards. Players must hit their tee shot over a stream while avoiding a tree nestling the lip of the first landing area. If that wasn’t another, that water cuts back across the fairway just in time for the second dogleg.
